Had a great experience at Stride from the minute I walked through the door. The receptionists and MA's were very friendly and welcoming. I've been a patient of Dr. Urukalo's for almost 20 years. A Journey Home

When I was 15 years old, my family immigrated to the United States from Serbia in search of opportunity and a better future. We left behind everything that was familiar and started over in a new country with little more than hope, determination, and a willingness to work hard.

Starting over as a teenager wasn’t easy. I had to learn a new language, adapt to a new culture, and build a new life from the ground up. Looking back, those experiences taught me resilience, perseverance, humility, and gratitude—qualities that continue to shape both my life and the way I care for my patients today.

Lake Travis became home.

The teachers, classmates, and community welcomed me, challenged me, and gave me opportunities that changed the course of my life. Their encouragement and belief in me inspired me to work hard, dream big, and never lose sight of what was possible. I graduated from Lake Travis High School as the Class of 1986 Salutatorian—an achievement that reflected not only years of dedication, but also the opportunities this remarkable community made possible.

From there, my journey continued at The University of Texas at Austin, where I earned my degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I then pursued my lifelong dream of becoming a physician, earning my podiatric medical degree from the California College of Podiatric Medicine. During my fourth year of medical school and internship at UT Health Science Center San Antonio, I received extensive training in wound care and diabetic limb salvage before completing my surgical residency at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Pennsylvania.

Those experiences allowed me to train alongside exceptional physicians, care for patients with complex conditions, and develop the skills that continue to guide my practice today. But throughout every stage of my education and career, one thought remained constant:

Someday, I wanted to come home.

That dream became reality when I founded Stride Foot & Ankle Center.

Opening Stride was never simply about starting a medical practice. It was about giving back to the community that believed in me, invested in me, and helped make my own American dream possible. Every day, I have the privilege of caring for neighbors, families, athletes, children, and many of the people who make the Lake Travis community such a special place to live.

My philosophy has always been simple: listen carefully, educate thoroughly, and partner with each patient to create the treatment plan that best fits their goals. Whether that means conservative care, advanced regenerative medicine, or surgery when necessary, my objective is always the same—to help people regain confidence in their movement and return to the activities they love.

The name Stride was chosen intentionally.

A stride represents forward motion. It symbolizes progress, resilience, hope, and the ability to keep moving despite life’s obstacles. Those values have defined my own journey, and they continue to guide every patient interaction at Stride Foot & Ankle Center.

Every patient who walks through our doors has a story. My team and I consider it a privilege to become a small part of that story—to help relieve pain, restore mobility, and improve quality of life.

For me, this journey has come full circle. Returning to Lake Travis to care for the community that helped shape my life is one of the greatest honors of my career.

Home isn’t simply where I grew up—it’s where I now have the privilege of helping others keep moving forward.

Thank you for trusting me, my team, and Stride Foot & Ankle Center with your care. I look forward to helping you keep moving—for many years to come.
